A Health Insurance helps to complement the medical services of the National Health Service (NHS) and to prevent expenses in case of illness or accident.
A Health Insurance can work in one of three schemes:
DIRECT PROVISION (Network): Through Health Insurance under this scheme, the insured person(s) uses the health care of a network of predefined healthcare providers. In this case, each of the insured individuals is assigned a card that has to be presented to each health care provider at the time of each medical act.
PROVISION FOR REIMBURSEMENT: Through Health Insurance under this scheme the insured person(s) can use the health care of medical care providers that do not belong to an agreed network. In that case, the expense must be remitted to the Insurer for reimbursement up to the limit of the contracted capital, deducted from the corresponding co-participation that is charged to the insured person.
MIXED MODEL: NETWORK / REIMBURSEMENT: This scheme is characterized by being a mixture of the two previously presented schemes.
